I have, starting tomorrow, a series of five blogs about promotions and marketing (took an online class last night and have one more in two weeks) and have reserved Mondays, starting March 5, as Promo Monday on my blog as promo advice day.

Leave your questions here and get added to the list of topics.

  1. If you only were able to do one thing to promote your book, what would be the best to give you the most exposure?

    1. To narrow it down to one source and technique is very difficult- remember the old adage, don't put all your eggs in one basket- you need to diversify and have numerous avenues for promoting- but which are the most effective is a topic I will cover soon

  2. I'd love to hear more about paid advertising -- where are the spots you can get the biggest bang for your buck, for instance. Thanks for running this series, Dawne! Look forward to hearing your advice :)

  3. What forms of promotions don't work so I don't waste my time on them? What do you think of guest blogging?

  4. How effective do you think posting excerpts to the various Yahoo groups each week actually is? I do this most weeks but I've skipped a few weeks as a test. I don't see much difference in sales either way.

I'm trying to streamline promo (because my time is increasingly crunched) and do what works, jettison what doesn't so do you think excerpts really interest readers in books or not?

    1. This is actually one topic I will be covering soon. It seems to be controversy of sorts among authors.

  5. Another question (actually a clarification of my earlier one). Which blogs are very good or best for guest blogging? I'm looking for blogs that get lots of traffic especially from readers.

    1. Either asking the blog owner or using an online tracking is hte best resources. I recommend a tracking website like alexa.com or technorati.com for accurate information on blog traffic

  6. What is the first step- lining up interviews and reviews? Do people get annoyed when you make an "event" on facebook to announce your book release? are blog tours worth it? And should I put money into google advertising? Heck Dawne Just take me by the hand and tell me what to do-- I was really excited when I saw the blog topic- perfect timing!!

  9. Do you think promo activities--what to do, what not to do, what works, what doesn't--varies depending on what you write? For example, is there a different promo activity set for heterosexual romance vs. M/M, or for romance vs. young adult? In other words, is there any "one size fits all" promo?
